TAO are keen to help tackle recycling issues in our society, and promote alternative methods to reduce waste and landfill.

In this aspect of the project we are intending to develop the ground floor of this former hotel and public bar into a recycling centre, sourcing materials that would normally be dumped as waste, even though perfectly useful eg paint, wood, furniture, household goods etc. We intend to contact many local businesses who deal with the elements of construction and renovation; where often they replace items and have to dump (often with a trade fee) their unwanted at landfill. Many items, we believe, could still prove useful and we are offering to 'pass on' such goods to needier members of the community and as a resource for artists materials.

One community project will involve the recycling of bike parts with the intention to repair bikes and offer a daily hire service in the city.

We also want to encourage recycling of waste products in city centre businesses and homes and intend to offer a drop off service - as there are limited official city sites for this service.

Work has begun, with the help of volunteers and members keen to support the regeneration of these disused properties. If you are interested in helping, in any way, please pop by to 21 Station Street, or email.

During its vacant period, this building has suffered under the hands of vandals and thieves, who have broke in repeatedly to cause destruction and disrepair and our work will be cut out to bring it back to use. Our first target was to clear all the broken and destroyed fittings and rubble - obviously recycling wherever possible and minimilising any potential waste, trying to make use of anything and everything we need to remove.

Having now fitted bars in the windows, we are able to remove the boards from the windows and let light into the space after 12 years of seclusion. We are now trying to dry out the building.

We have begun to fence off the rear yard in the anticipation to begin the project, and start collecting.
