meta-conceptual gathering

Meta-Conceptual Gathering 07

For a hard graft middle two weeks of August, members gather at a small private riperian woodland in North Wales to further the work started on 2006.

For more details please contact us.

Meta-Conceptual Gathering 06

Co-Directors Robert Howie Smith and Gregory Scott Gurner this year invite members to spend a summer week in North Wales, preparing the site for constructing a new size, workable pod.

Meta-Conceptual Gathering 05 Pod Life

As part of TAO's rural MCG05 member Gregory Scott Gurner was invited to Devon to construct a living pod; a temporary, outdoor gallery based on an ecocentric theme, of conscious life performance and habitable accomodation through the use of recycled material, as part of a land management programme in a educational woodland environment near Totnes and Dartmoor.

The pod is a temporary structure built by recycling off-cuts of plastic piping of various gauges that are weaved together to create a solid frame, over which is stretched a weatherproof covering - in this case, canvas. New members assisted in the construction and are now working with the management to further establish the project before it becomes available for public access.

Any person wishing to participate can contact TAO to find out how.

Meta-Conceptual Gathering 04

A selection of the most inspiring artists from
The Meta-Conceptual Gallery 2004 will be invited
to exhibit in this years Liverpool Biennial.

In association with local landlords Frensons,
Liverpool City Council and The Christian Church,
The Art Organisation will utilise the interiors of eight disused properties and the exteriors of over 12 derelict buildings throughout The Ropewalks in the city, and transform them into creative centres hosting exhibitions, installations, outstallations, film, performance and all manner of uncategorisable manifestations.

Our approach to the Biennial is through a series of projects linked to the empty premises and venues.

Meta-Conceptual Gathering 03

Artists, musicians, performers, architects and all other creative, conscious types, are challenged to create original Outstallations in the fantastic surroundings of Coed Hills Rural Art-Space, near the village of St. Hilary, near Cardiff, South-West Wales.

Meta-Conceptual Gathering 02

Artists from around the world gathered to create a temporary, outdoor gallery and exhibition, based on an ecocentric theme, of conscious construction and life performance, whilst surviving unaided for 2weeks, in the beautiful fields of Avalon

.

Artistically, highlights included ...IggyShark &Co's BUSH'$ BACK YARD BARBECUE, Kings of a Beatless Empire, Michelle's Meta-Conceptual Caberet, friday nights FIREPLAY - fire performance and fire walk, the childrens Live Adventure Role Playing Day, the Faerie Village, Rob Smith's Wolf Lair installation, Wizards At Large, The Healing TeePee, Simon and Jasmine's earthen bread oven, Pete the Potter and Pleasuredome the legendary hottub from the infamous Warp Experience back in 99 and more besides.

Meta-Conceptual Gathering 01

The Meta-conceptual Gathering finished one day late on September 15th. Around fifty of us had gathered at the festival site near Shepton Mallet for two weeks of conscious creation. The theme of Barter gave way to some lively discussions on the subject but, sucessfully, the site was completely free of commercial trading, everyone was on an equal footing within the site. The World Wide Web space successfully ran a barter kitchen feeding 10-20 every lunch and evening.

Artistically, highlights included Simon and Jasmine's maze of outdoor slide screens and teepee, Rob Howie-Smith's stone circle paintings, Daisy Campbells interactive theatre and office and Gregs 50-metre-plus-diametre web structure, focused around the 600-year-old maple that dominates the top of the hill. Other high spots were a sauna, constructed entirely from materials found on site, and a team of dedicated fire spinners who lit up the evenings.
